What most people ask first
Do you take custody of my funds?
No. Once access is restored, you verify the wallet and move the funds yourself, to one only you control. We’re never in a position to hold or transfer them for you.
I still have my seed phrase but forgot my password. Is that a problem?
Not really. Restore the wallet from the seed phrase and set a new password; the old one becomes irrelevant.
What’s a “seed extension,” and do I need to worry about it?
It’s an optional extra word on top of your 12-word seed. Without it, the same seed opens a completely different, empty wallet, so if you ever set one, it matters just as much as the seed itself.
My old Electrum wallet shows a zero balance. Are the coins gone?
Usually not. Electrum has changed its wallet formats several times since 2011, and restoring an old wallet under the wrong type or address format is the most common cause of a false zero balance.

Seed Phrase Electrum Rejects as Invalid
A seed marked “invalid” often isn’t wrong at all, usually it’s a BIP-39 phrase entered without ticking Electrum’s BIP-39 checkbox. The next most common cause is a misspelled word, a swapped pair, or a word from the wrong wordlist version. Electrum seed phrases explained
Incomplete Seed Phrase
If you have 8 or more of the 12 words and roughly know where the gaps are, reconstruction is often feasible: each missing word is 2,048 candidates to test. Four missing words is the practical limit before the search space outpaces any hardware. BIP-39 wordlist reference
Seed Extension or Corrupted Wallet File?
An optional 13th word added on top of your seed creates a completely separate wallet; if you remember using one but not what it was, we can test candidates the same way we test a password. A corrupted wallet file (JSON text, damaged by a failing drive or interrupted write) doesn’t necessarily mean lost keys either: if enough of the structure survives, we can often extract them directly, so stop writing to the drive and copy what you have first.
Old Wallet From an Earlier Electrum Version

TrustedCoin 2FA Wallet
Electrum’s 2FA uses TrustedCoin as a co-signer in a 2-of-3 multisig setup. If you have the seed, the wallet can be restored even without TrustedCoin’s cooperation, though the process involves extra steps. Electrum 2FA recovery
Common mistakes to avoid
- Don’t install an “update” prompted from inside Electrum itself; the 2018/2019 malicious-update campaign spread exactly this way. Genuine updates only ever come from electrum.org.
- Don’t assume an “invalid seed” error means your words are wrong; a BIP-39 phrase from another wallet needs its own checkbox ticked first.
- Don’t enter a partial or uncertain seed phrase into any online tool.
- Don’t keep writing to a drive after a wallet file goes missing or corrupts; every new file lowers the odds of recovery.
Information that may be needed for recovery
- Which wallet type you created: Standard, SegWit, or 2FA/multisig.
- Roughly which version of Electrum you were using, or when the wallet was created.
- What you remember about the password, or any seed extension you may have set.
- How many words of your seed phrase you still have, and roughly which are missing.
You always stay in control of your funds. You move them yourself and we never take custody of your assets.
What we don’t recover
- Funds drained by the fake 2018/2019 Electrum “update” phishing campaign. Once malware sent your coins to an attacker’s address, that’s a completed transaction, not an access problem.
- A wallet file bought, downloaded, or handed over by someone claiming to be “Electrum support.” Electrum has no support team that reaches out this way; that’s always a scam.
- Scam & fraud recovery in general. We don’t chase funds sent to scammers.
- Transactions sent to the wrong address.

Password testing runs on dedicated offline GPU hardware; seed reconstruction uses systematic checksum testing. Depending on complexity, this takes days to several weeks.
5. Handover and Payment

Electrum Wallet Recovery FAQs
How is Electrum recovery different from other wallets?
Electrum uses its own seed format, not BIP-39, so a valid Electrum phrase fails a BIP-39 validator and vice versa. It also has multiple wallet types (Legacy, SegWit, 2FA, multisig), each needing different handling.
I have my seed phrase but Electrum says it's invalid. What's wrong?
Most likely it’s a BIP-39 phrase needing the “BIP39 seed” checkbox enabled in Electrum’s restore options. It’s also possible a word is misspelled, two words are swapped, or you’re entering a 24-word hardware-wallet phrase into a 12-word field.
How much does Electrum wallet recovery cost?

I was scammed through a fake Electrum update. Can you get my coins back?
No. Those 2018/2019 attacks installed malware that sent Bitcoin to an attacker’s address, and that transaction is irreversible. We only help with access recovery for wallets you still own.
Can I recover an Electrum wallet without the seed phrase?
Only if you still have the wallet file; the password is then the only barrier. With neither the seed nor the file, there’s nothing to recover from, and we’ll say so plainly during the assessment.
