Do you take custody of my funds?
No. Once access is restored, you extract and move the funds yourself, to a wallet only you control. We’re never in a position to hold or move them for you.
What’s the difference between MultiBit Classic and MultiBit HD?

Forgotten Your Password?

Lost Seed Phrase (MultiBit HD)
If you used HD and lost the 12- or 18-word recovery phrase, the wallet file is your fallback: the phrase sits inside the encrypted data alongside your keys. Recovering the password brings the seed phrase out with it, and from there you can reconstruct the wallet in Electrum or any other BIP-39-compatible wallet.
Incomplete or Invalid Seed Phrase (MultiBit HD)
A misspelled word, two words swapped, or a few missing will get the phrase rejected outright. If you have 8 or more of the 12 words and roughly know where the gaps are, we test candidates against the BIP-39 checksum and your wallet’s blockchain addresses; up to four missing words is the practical limit.
Old or Deleted Wallet File
A file from 2014 on a USB drive you forgot about, or pulled from an old computer, isn’t a lost cause: an intact file with password hints recovers the same way a recent one would. If the file was deleted, it may still exist in the drive’s unallocated space, so stop using that drive immediately. Recovering an old wallet file
Corrupted Wallet File
Improper shutdowns, drive failures, or interrupted writes can corrupt a MultiBit Classic file until it refuses to open or shows the wrong balance. If enough of the structure survives, we can often extract the keys directly from the raw data. Make copies of whatever you have first, and don’t attempt further repairs on your only copy.
Zero Balance or Not Syncing
MultiBit needed a live connection to show an up-to-date balance, and its default servers have been offline for years. A wallet that opens fine can still show zero simply because it can’t reach the network; check your addresses on a block explorer like mempool.space. The fix isn’t resyncing MultiBit, it’s extracting the keys and sweeping them into a working wallet.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Don’t download or run any “MultiBit” installer you find online; official downloads are gone, and unofficial copies are frequently compromised.
- Don’t keep attempting repairs on a corrupted wallet file directly; work from a copy.
- Don’t keep using a drive after deleting your wallet file from it; every new file written lowers the odds of recovery.
- Don’t assume a zero balance means your Bitcoin is gone; check your addresses on a block explorer first.
Information that may be needed for recovery
- Which version you used: MultiBit Classic or MultiBit HD.
- Whether you still have the .wallet or .wallet.aes file, or the HD wallet directory.
- What you remember about the password: length, structure, characters used at the time.
- Any fragments of a 12- or 18-word seed phrase, if you used HD.
You always stay in control of your funds. You move them yourself and we never take custody of your assets.
What we don’t recover
- Funds stolen through a fake or backdoored MultiBit installer. Once a compromised download has sent your keys elsewhere, that’s a theft, not an access problem, and it can’t be undone.
- A wallet file bought or downloaded from a third party “with Bitcoin inside.” This is a well-known scam; owning the file doesn’t mean you own working keys.
- A wallet that never existed, or exists nowhere at all, no .wallet file, no exported keys, no seed phrase to work from.
- Chasing funds sent to a scammer. Once coins leave a wallet on the blockchain, we can’t reverse that movement, and neither can anyone else.
- Transactions sent to the wrong address, for the same reason.

Why Crypto Recovers

My MultiBit wallet shows a zero balance. Is the Bitcoin gone?
Almost certainly not. MultiBit can no longer reach the Bitcoin network because its default servers are offline. Check your receiving addresses on a block explorer like mempool.space.
I have a MultiBit HD seed phrase. Where do I enter it?
Not into MultiBit. Import it into Electrum by choosing “I already have a seed,” enabling the BIP39 option, and entering your words under the Legacy address type.
I forgot my password and lost my seed phrase. Is recovery possible?
If the wallet file still exists, yes, the password is the only barrier. If the file itself is gone, there’s nothing left to recover from.
My wallet file won't open or shows an error. Is it corrupted beyond repair?
Not necessarily. A corrupted file can still hold intact private keys even when MultiBit refuses to load it. Make copies of the file first, and don’t attempt further repairs on your only copy.
How long does MultiBit wallet recovery take?
