Where our service can help

Forgot Bitcoin Core wallet password

You encrypted the wallet years ago and nothing you type works anymore. If you remember fragments (a base word, a pattern, the kind of password you used back then), recovery is often possible.

Corrupted wallet.dat file

Bitcoin Core reports a damaged database or refuses to load the file, and salvage attempts have failed. A file the software can’t open often still holds intact private keys Crypto Recovers can extract.

You deleted or lost the wallet.dat file

The file was removed, the OS reinstalled, or the drive formatted. Deleting a file removes the reference, not always the data, so recovery from the drive itself is in many cases still possible. Stop using that drive now.

You have an old wallet from the early years

A wallet.dat from 2009–2014, made on a computer that no longer exists. Age alone doesn’t kill a case; we work with legacy Berkeley DB wallets and newer descriptor formats alike.

You found an old wallet.dat and don't know what's inside

A file on an old drive, a backup from a relative, a wallet from your mining days. We can often determine whether it holds coins before any recovery work starts, so you know if the case is worth pursuing.

Why Crypto Recovers

Our first recovery was in 2019, and more than 200 wallets have followed, many of them cases other services had already attempted without success.

We’re a small specialist team in Amsterdam, led by a programmer, and it shows in the method: systematic testing instead of guesswork.

You’re welcome to check our business registration yourself, and an NDA is available for every case.

How the process works at Crypto Recovers

  1. You reach out. Describe your situation through the contact form: what wallet, what you have, what you remember. Rough answers are fine.
  2. Free assessment. We tell you honestly whether your case is technically viable and what the realistic odds and timeline look like. No commitment, no cost.
  3. Contract first. We never start work before signing the contract.
  4. Recovery. We work exclusively on copies, offline, on air-gapped hardware. For passphrase cases we build candidates from your memory and test them systematically with GPU-based software running hundreds of thousands of combinations per second.
  5. Handover, with both of us present. You open the recovered wallet yourself, send the funds to a new wallet you created.

The industry’s old model works differently: the recovery firm routes your coins through its own wallet and keeps its cut before paying you out. That’s custody of your money, and we refuse to do it. Every transfer on your screen happens by your hand.

Bitcoin Core Wallet Recovery FAQs

How do I know you won't empty my wallet.dat once you find the passphrase?

Because the setup never puts us in a position to. For passphrase cases we can work from an encryption-header extract of your wallet.dat: it contains no private keys, so the search runs without your full wallet ever leaving you. And at the handover, every transfer happens by your hand with both of us watching. For high-value cases, an independent escrow arrangement is available on top.

My wallet.dat loads but shows a zero balance. Are the coins gone?

Usually not. Bitcoin Core shows a balance only after it has scanned the blockchain, so a wallet.dat loaded on a fresh install reads zero until the rescan finishes. Before assuming the worst, look up your receiving addresses on a block explorer; if the coins show there, the problem is syncing, not loss.

What if I only remember part of my Bitcoin Core passphrase?

That’s often enough. Partial memory shrinks the search space enormously: a known base word, or the keyboard pattern you always used. We turn what you remember into a structured candidate list and test it systematically. In many cases the real passphrase sits closer to your best guess than you’d expect.

Do I need to download the whole blockchain to get my bitcoin back?

No. Regaining access to the funds doesn’t require a full node sync; the keys inside your wallet.dat are what matter. Syncing only becomes relevant if you want to keep running Bitcoin Core as a full node afterward, which is your choice, not a requirement.

Bitcoin Core says my wallet.dat is corrupted. Is it hopeless?

Usually not. A damaged database structure and lost private keys are two different problems, and the first doesn’t imply the second. Make two copies of the file, stop retrying salvage on the original, and send us the details.

I deleted my wallet.dat years ago. Is there any chance left?

It depends on the drive. If it’s been in daily use since, the odds shrink with every write; if it’s been sitting in a drawer, deleted wallet data frequently survives. Old spinning drives sometimes fail on the second or third read, so leave the original untouched.

Someone is selling a wallet.dat with bitcoin inside. Can you unlock it for me?

No, and we’d advise you not to buy it. Wallet.dat files offered for sale are a known scam: either the seller keeps a copy of the keys and empties the wallet after payment, or the advertised balance was never real. We only take cases where you’re the legitimate owner of the wallet.
