You may be confused when trying to recover Phantom wallet funds due to the variety of recovery options, such as “Use Recovery Phrase,” “Connect Email Wallet,” and “Connect Hardware Wallet,” etc.
Phantom is a non-custodial wallet. Non-custodial means only you have access to your private keys and seed phrase, and you are fully responsible for keeping this data safe. If you cannot access your wallet or are unsure about recovery steps, we will walk you through your options in this article and explain when it may be best to seek professional help, especially if you suspect lost credentials or a compromised account.
How to Recover Phantom Wallet Using Seed Phrase
If you still have your seed phrase, it will be easy to recover your Solana in the Phantom Wallet mobile app or browser extension. It is the easiest and most reliable method available. Your 12-word recovery phrase is your golden ticket.
Follow these steps on mobile (iOS & Android):
- Download the Phantom app from the App Store or Google Play.
- Open the app and tap “I already have a wallet.”
- Click “Other Import Options” and find “Import Recovery Phrase”
- Enter your 12-word recovery phrase. Do not use any commas or capital letters and watch out for typos.
- Set a new password and you’re back in.
On desktop:
- Install the Phantom extension on your browser.
- Tap “I already have a wallet.”
- Click “Import Recovery Phrase.”
- Type in your 12 words carefully.
- Create a new password to finish setup.
Tip: If you want to get the recovery done smoothly, double-check the spelling and word order. Even one wrong word will block access.
Because Phantom uses the standard BIP-39 seed phrase format, you can import your Phantom wallet into other wallets like Solflare or Trust Wallet (if they support Solana).
How to View Your Recovery Phrase in Phantom Wallet?
Luckily, if you’re still logged into your Phantom wallet but don’t have the seed phrase, you can still back it up manually. The difficulty comes in if you set up a PIN, as you will need to remember that too. But the steps are very simple:
- Tap on your profile photo in the top-left corner.
- Go to Security & Privacy.
- Tap “Show Recovery Phrase,” and the app will scan your face or ask for your password.
- And there you go—back it up manually or copy it to the clipboard.
However, if you are not logged into the wallet, you may need to go with other options described below.
How to Recover Phantom Using Email?
This recovery option is available in the newer version of the wallet. Some users had the chance to create a wallet by connecting it to an email or Apple account. If you are one of those lucky ones, you will not need your seed phrase. But there is a catch—you will need to remember your PIN. The PIN is used in the wallet so no one can access your email without your permission. Here are the recovery steps:
- Open the app or browser extension and tap “I already have a wallet.”
- Click “Continue with Email”
- Continue with Apple or Google, choose the right email address.
- Enter 4 digit PIN.
- Enable or skip face ID and you will be back into the wallet.
If the PIN is missing, look for a seed phrase backup. It can be used instead of email restoration.
Restore Phantom Accounts Using Private Keys
Sometimes you might have individual private keys for specific accounts or tokens instead of the full seed phrase. To recover your Phantom wallet using private keys, you need to import each private key individually into the wallet or a compatible Solana wallet. Private keys control access to specific wallet addresses, so you can import them to get back control of those accounts.
To do this, you can use tools or wallets that allow private key import, then access those accounts through Phantom by adding them via the “Manage Accounts” or “Add Account” section. This process can be a bit technical, so if you have your seed phrase, use it instead, since it restores all accounts at once more easily and safely.
Fixing Phantom Recovery Issues
The biggest issue when recovering a Phantom wallet is a missing recovery seed. If the phrase is completely lost, you will not be able to restore it, even when turning to Phantom Wallet itself or professional recovery services. In this case, you will need to explore the email or private key recovery option.
Another problem may be an invalid seed phrase or missing words in the seed phrase. Without knowing the exact issue, you can verify it against the BIP39 word list, from which the words were originally taken. If you are not sure which word caused an error, try similar words—for example, “air” and “aim” are both valid BIP39 words that differ by only one letter and can make the whole phrase invalid. If more than 4 words are missing, I am afraid recovery will take years, even with professional GPU-based software and crypto recovery services.
If the PIN to your email account is lost, you will have 5 attempts to get it right before the wallet delays recovery and eventually blocks the account. That’s why it is better to look for your seed phrase backup everywhere—old notebooks, password managers, open drawers, and document folders.
Money missing from the account? It usually happens when recovering funds from another wallet into Phantom. It could be a derivation path issue. It is recommended to use the original wallet brand to avoid unnecessary trouble.
