Quick answers

What restores Dogecoin?

A Dogecoin Core wallet.dat with password memory, a recovery phrase, or a backup: Bitcoin-family rules apply.

Why does a restored wallet show zero DOGE?

Check the address format (D-prefix) and wallet type; a mismatch is the usual cause.

Can MultiDoge key backups help?

Yes. For a password-protected wallet, MultiDoge stores timestamped key backups (.key files in the key-backup folder) that test much faster than the .wallet file.

Our Dogecoin wallet recovery services

Forgot or lost Dogecoin wallet password

You still have the wallet file, such as a Dogecoin Core wallet.dat, a MultiDoge .wallet file or an encrypted backup, but the password dates from years ago. We test candidate passwords against a copy of the file, and anything you remember about how you used to build passwords narrows the search considerably. Dogecoin Core recovery steps

MultiDoge or another discontinued wallet

MultiDoge, ported from MultiBit, saw its last release in January 2016, Doughwallet for iPhone is defunct, and the original Android Dogecoin Wallet is no longer maintained. Discontinued software does not affect the coins on the Dogecoin blockchain. The wallet file, backup or phrase holds the keys, not the program, so a wallet whose software no longer syncs or will not open can still be read. MultiDoge recovery steps

Deleted wallet file or dead computer

The wallet file was deleted by accident, lost when a drive was formatted, or is stuck on a computer that no longer starts. Deletion and formatting do not always erase the data itself, so a drive that still exists could still hold the wallet. Don't power the machine on or install anything; have it assessed as it is. Damaged and deleted wallet data

Invalid or incomplete seed phrase

Newer Dogecoin wallets such as Exodus, Trust Wallet, Coinomi or a Ledger use a standard 12- or 24-word phrase. If yours is rejected or has gaps, we reconstruct phrases with up to four missing words through the word list and checksum, depending on which positions are known and on an address to check against. Incomplete recovery phrase

Partial or damaged private key

A faded printout, a torn note or a key copied down with a few illegible characters. A Dogecoin private key starts with Q or 6 and carries a checksum, so when enough of it remains, a bounded search may be possible and a correct result is verified against your address before the handover. Damaged or partial paper backups

Zero DOGE after a restore or import

A wallet that shows zero does not prove the coins are gone. Dogecoin Core shows balances only after a full chain download, an old backup can miss addresses created later, and a phrase restored with a different derivation path opens different addresses. We check your address on a block explorer before anyone concludes anything. Zero balance after a restore

Before you contact us

Mistakes to avoid

  • Don't work on your only copy. Copy wallet.dat, the whole MultiDoge folder and any .key files first.
  • Don't copy an old wallet.dat over the one in Dogecoin Core's data folder. Close the app and move the existing file aside first.
  • Don't upload a wallet file, or type a password, key or phrase into a website that offers to recover or check it.
  • Don't download MultiDoge or "recovery" software from random sites. The official project is archived.
  • Don't trust giveaways or "recovery experts" who contact you first. A confirmed Dogecoin transaction cannot be reversed by anyone. Warning signs of crypto scams
  • Never share private keys, a recovery phrase or a password with anyone, including us, to get an assessment.

Information that helps the assessment

  • Which wallet you used, such as Dogecoin Core, MultiDoge, Doughwallet, Exodus or a Ledger, and roughly when.
  • Which files survive: wallet.dat, a MultiDoge .wallet file and its -data folder, .key exports or a paper key. Describe them; don't send them.
  • Your Dogecoin address (it starts with D), so we can check its balance on a block explorer.
  • What you remember about the password: words, numbers, capitals, length, the keyboard language you used then.
  • For a phrase: how many words survive, and which positions are missing or uncertain.
  • Whether the old computer or drive is still in use, and what you have already tried.

Boundaries

What we do not do

  • Theft, scams or a wrong address

A confirmed blockchain transaction cannot be reversed, cancelled or redirected, by us or by anyone.

  • A completely lost recovery phrase

With no phrase, wallet file, device, backup or partial information left, there is nothing to reconstruct from.

  • Guaranteed outcomes

No honest service can guarantee success. Whether recovery is possible depends on what you still have, and the assessment tells you before you commit.

We tell you honestly what is realistic before you commit — including when the answer is no.

How it works

A clear process from first contact to handover.

  1. Tell us what happened

Share the wallet or software name, approximate year, device, problem and what material still exists. Do not send a seed phrase, private key, password, wallet file or ID document.

  2. Initial feasibility view

Once we have enough information, we usually explain the likely recovery route, the main uncertainties and an initial indication of duration.

  3. Verify and agree

We verify identity and ownership or legal authority. Scope, working method, fee and sensitive-material handling are agreed in writing before sensitive work begins.

  4. Transfer or hand over material

PGP, our secure encrypted upload environment, in-person handover or agreed shipment may be used. We request only what is needed and work with copies where possible.

  5. Technical recovery

We test the agreed recovery route in a controlled environment. You receive meaningful updates when findings affect the outlook, scope or next decision.

  6. Client-controlled handover

Access is handed back through the agreed route. You open the wallet and move the assets to a wallet you control; case material is then handled according to the agreement and privacy policy.

Good to know about Dogecoin wallet recovery

  • Same rules as Bitcoin. Dogecoin Core is adapted from Bitcoin Core, and the same rules apply: an address alone cannot recreate keys, and age alone does not make a wallet recoverable.
  • MultiDoge key backups. The timestamped backups are encrypted with the wallet password. A .key export can contain several private keys; it is not limited to one address. Preserve these backups alongside the .wallet file.
  • No sync needed for the keys. Dogecoin Core needs a full chain download to show balances, but the keys can be exported and swept without it.
  • Old Dogecoin Core backups. Wallets created with version 1.10 or older do not derive addresses from a seed, so an old backup can miss addresses generated after it was made. If the original computer still exists, its wallet.dat may hold more.
  • Exchange accounts. DOGE bought in an exchange account, including a Blockchain.com Trading Account, is held by that provider. Only the provider can restore the login, and that is outside our scope.

DOGE wallets we work with

  • Dogecoin Core: wallet.dat files, with or without a password.
  • MultiDoge, built on the same code as MultiBit Classic: .wallet files, .key exports and the automatic backups in its -data folder.
  • Ledger and Trezor hardware wallets, which store DOGE behind their recovery phrase.
  • Exodus, Trust Wallet and Coinomi, multi-coin wallets that keep DOGE behind their recovery phrase.
  • Jaxx Liberty, retired in March 2023, which held DOGE behind its 12-word phrase.
  • Doughwallet for iPhone, whose 12-word phrase uses non-standard settings, so a standard wallet restores different, empty addresses.
  • The original Android Dogecoin Wallet, whose backup file is encrypted with your backup password.
  • MetaMask, which does not support the Dogecoin network itself: DOGE in MetaMask is either a pegged token, such as Binance-Peg Dogecoin on BNB Smart Chain, or held through a third-party Snap, and both depend on the MetaMask Secret Recovery Phrase.

Dogecoin wallet recovery FAQ

Do Dogecoin Core and MultiDoge have a recovery phrase?

No. Dogecoin Core uses wallet.dat; MultiDoge uses .wallet files and .key exports or backups. Recovery depends on the surviving key data and, where encrypted, its password. DOGE held in a BIP-39 wallet such as Trust Wallet, Exodus, Coinomi or a Ledger recovers from its phrase instead.

Can I recover Dogecoin with only my wallet password?

No. The password only decrypts a wallet file or backup, so without that file it opens nothing. The first task is finding the file on an old computer, drive or backup.

Can my DOGE be recovered if the wallet file is gone?

Only if the data can still be recovered from a drive, or a copy survives on an old USB stick, in an email or in a cloud folder. With no file, no backup and no key, there is nothing to reconstruct.

Can I get my coins back from Dogetipbot?

No. Dogetipbot was a custodial tipping service: the coins sat in its wallets, not yours. In May 2017 its operator set every balance to zero, and no technical recovery can reach coins that were never in your own wallet.

How much does crypto wallet recovery cost?

It depends on the wallet's value and how complex the case is: our success fee runs from 20% of the recovered amount down to 2%. The exact rate is agreed in writing before any work starts — no hidden costs and no hourly rates.

Do you take custody of the assets at any point?

No. We restore access; you open the wallet and move the funds yourself. We cannot initiate a transaction on your behalf.

Do I need to send my seed phrase or password?

No — first contact needs no sensitive material, and we never ask for it through forms or chat. Under a written agreement we can work with copies of wallet files in a controlled environment, so your keys stay under your control.

What if my wallet was stolen or I was scammed?

We do not take stolen-crypto or scam cases, and blockchain transactions cannot be reversed. That is a police and legal matter.

Start your recovery

The assessment is free and needs no sensitive material. Describe what you still have and we will review whether recovery is realistic. You only pay if the recovery succeeds.
