Last December we received an email that did not seem unusual at first, just a brief note from a man named Paul saying he needed help recovering a crypto wallet password.
When Robbert, the main Bitcoin recovery expert at Crypto Recovers, called him back, he immediately sensed the tension in Paul’s voice. Something felt off, not only because Paul was locked out of his wallet but also because there was a trace of distrust from the very beginning.
Paul’s case was unusual. He was not just missing a password, he was dealing with an old MultiBit Classic wallet that had been discontinued years ago. That added another layer of complexity. He was one of about one and a half million people who had set up that wallet back in the early days. Fortunately, he still had the original wallet file from 2013, when Bitcoin was worth around twenty euros.
Here was the real challenge. Paul had been trying to recover his password on his own for more than three years. By the time he contacted us, Bitcoin’s price had skyrocketed, and the potential reward was too tempting to ignore. Even then, Paul was not sure if he could trust any recovery service. Scams are everywhere in crypto, and he knew it. After a long conversation Robbert suggested meeting face to face. Since Paul lived in Germany, it was only a four hour drive to our office. That gave him the courage to move forward.

How Paul Lost His MultiBit Wallet
Paul was not a crypto expert, but as a stock arbitrageur he was familiar with digital assets. In 2013 he saw Bitcoin’s potential and could not resist setting up a wallet as a long-term experiment. He bought a couple of Bitcoins without expecting they would ever become so valuable. The password to his MultiBit Classic wallet was written neatly in his main notebook.
When Bitcoin spiked in 2018, Paul checked his wallet balance but decided to wait a little longer before withdrawing. He remembers tearing out the page with the password and hiding it in a secret stash for extra security. He used the password a few times to log in from his laptop, but then life got busy and the wallet simply sat idle.
By 2022, when Bitcoin prices surged again, Paul wanted to cash out. That was when he realised the piece of paper was gone. He had hidden it so well that even he could not find it. After turning his home upside down searching for the password, he tried entering every variation he could remember, but nothing worked. The password was intentionally strong with capital letters, symbols and random characters, so guessing it was impossible.
Initial Crypto Recovery Attempts
Paul refused to give up. He started trying to recover it himself. First, he posted on Bitcoin forums, even though he felt embarrassed admitting that he had lost his own password. He discovered free password cracking tools online and taught himself basic Python using YouTube tutorials. He even downloaded the original MultiBit software from GitHub, which was risky security wise, but his computer simply did not have enough power to crack it. A year went by.
Next, Paul turned to a friend who was a programmer in crypto security. He offered him a reward if he could find the right password. Months passed without success. By early 2024 Bitcoin broke every price record, and the potential reward became impossible to ignore.
Paul searched for “crypto wallet recovery services” and wrote to the first five companies he found. We at Crypto Recovers answered first and called him right away.
Paul’s Meeting with a Crypto Wallet Recovery Company
When Paul arrived at our office on a Friday, he admitted, “I am so happy I am not the only one forgetting a password. I read your reviews on Trustpilot and finally felt I could reach out.”
Still, he was nervous and even a little ashamed of losing his password. His initial doubts about whether our company was legitimate soon turned into worries about whether recovery was even possible. When we explained that wallet recovery is never guaranteed, he looked slightly disappointed, but he agreed to move forward since we were his last hope.
We signed a contract, and Paul handed us a full page of password hints. The list contained every word and pattern he had ever used for his social media and email accounts, important dates, and even his favourite symbols. He also wrote down the “roots” he thought might be part of the wallet password.
Our custom recovery software went to work immediately. The computers ran non stop, generating so much heat that we did not need the heater in February. We pulled out all the crypto recovery methods in our toolbox. After three months, still no success.

The Recovery Breakthrough
Robbert asked Paul to search every old notebook again. The man returned to the office holding one carefully, as if it contained his whole life. Inside, we found five new password variations built on the same root. Unfortunately, he had overlooked them when providing the hint list for the first time.
We ran them through our system, and within an hour the correct password appeared on the screen. It turned out to be a fifteen-character password, far too complex to remember after so many years. Paul was still driving home when Robbert called him with the news. For a moment there was silence, then his voice cracked with relief: “I cannot believe it, you actually did it.”

How Crypto Recovers Helped Paul Unlock His MultiBit Classic Wallet
The wallet held Bitcoin worth well into six figures. Paul had been sceptical about our service because of the many scam stories he had read. What convinced him in the end was that we were real people in a real office where he could sit down, talk and shake hands.
The emotions were overwhelming — relief, gratitude, even disbelief. Paul admitted he had almost given up more than once.
The recovery was not easy. Months of work, high powered hardware running day and night and years of expertise went into cracking that password. But for Paul, the result was priceless. After waiting for more than three years, finally holding his Bitcoin again was worth all the afford.
Recovering the Unrecoverable: MultiBit Classic Case Study
The MultiBit wallets are discontinued, which makes recovering it a real challenge. Most people forget their passwords or misplace their wallet files, and over time, those files can get corrupted. Outdated encryption, lack of official support, and changes in operating systems add even more complications. Some users come to us with almost no information at all — not even a hint to guide the recovery. Others use complex passwords with multiple symbols, caps, and personal patterns that make guessing nearly impossible. Unfortunately, these situations are more common than you might think.
But at Crypto Recovers, we give a chance even to the most complicated cases, helping people regain access to wallets that seem impossible to unlock. We use advanced algorithms, custom software, and specialized recovery techniques to unlock even the most complicated cases, including discontinued wallets and long-lost passwords.
