Quick answers
What does a Monero backup look like?
The format depends on the original wallet: examples include legacy 25-word phrases, MyMonero’s 13-word format and 16-word Polyseed. Use software that supports the actual format and retain any passphrase or seed offset. Restore height is optional and affects scanning time; a value set too high can hide earlier transactions.
Is Monero the same as other coins?
No. Monero hides amounts and addresses, so recovery is purely seed-based; a wallet file can also be searched if its password is lost.
Does the restore height matter?
It is not required, but the right height makes rescanning dramatically faster. Note it if you know it.
Our Monero recovery services
Incomplete or unreadable Monero seed
The 25-word seed of the official wallet holds 24 words for the private spend key and a 25th checksum word computed from the first 24. Missing or misread words usually make the wallet reject the seed. For one or two uncertain words, the checksum narrows the candidates and a known address confirms the right one. We reconstruct seeds with up to four missing words; feasibility and search time depend on which positions are missing, whether the checksum word survives and whether a known address is available. Restored wallet shows zero or too little XMR
A seed that restores an empty wallet usually points to a missing passphrase or a wrong restore height, not to lost XMR. If a seed passphrase was set, the seed alone silently opens a different, empty wallet. A restore height later than your first incoming transaction hides earlier transactions and shows a wrong balance. We verify the address the seed produces and rescan from the right height before anyone concludes the XMR is gone. Zero balance after a restore
Forgotten Monero seed passphrase
A seed passphrase, also called a seed offset, changes the keys the seed produces: a missing or wrong one opens a different wallet without any error, and the seed itself cannot reveal it. Remembered fragments matter, because we build candidates from what you remember and test each one against an address you know. Forgotten wallet passphrase
Forgotten Monero wallet password
The wallet password encrypts the keys stored in the wallet's .keys file; it is not part of the seed. With the seed, you don't need the old password: restore the wallet and set a new one. If only the wallet file remains, a password search applies to the file's encryption, and what you remember about the password decides how realistic it is. Wallet password recovery
Seed in a format your wallet rejects
A seed only restores in software that supports its scheme, and the word count is the first clue. The official GUI and CLI expect 25 words; a 16-word Polyseed needs Feather, Cake Wallet or another wallet that supports it. Older MyMonero accounts used 13 words, which the official wallet cannot restore directly, and MyMonero ended its wallet service on January 6, 2026. We identify the scheme, and the software that restores it, before anything is tried. Seed standards compared

Mistakes to avoid
- Never enter a Monero seed into a website. Monero's privacy model makes mistakes permanent.
- Don't set a later restore height to save time when you are unsure. A height after your first incoming transaction hides transactions; when in doubt, go lower.
- Don't conclude your XMR is gone because a restored wallet shows zero. Check the passphrase and the restore height first.
- Don't delete old wallet files, even one whose password you have forgotten. It may hold the only spend-capable copy of your keys.
- Don't treat a view-only wallet or a public address as a backup. Neither can spend.
- Never share your seed, passphrase or wallet password with anyone, including us, to get an assessment.
Information that helps the assessment
- The wallet that created the seed (official GUI or CLI, Feather, Cake Wallet, MyMonero or another app) and how many words it has. Describe it; don't send the words.
- Which words are missing or uncertain, and at which positions.
- Whether a seed passphrase was set, and anything you remember about it.
- The restore height, or the approximate date of your first incoming transaction.
- A public address of the wallet, for example from an exchange withdrawal record.
- Any surviving wallet files, and what you remember about their password.
- What happened, and what you have already tried.
Boundaries
What we do not do
Theft, scams or a wrong address
A confirmed blockchain transaction cannot be reversed, cancelled or redirected, by us or by anyone.
A completely lost recovery phrase
With no phrase, wallet file, device, backup or partial information left, there is nothing to reconstruct from.
Guaranteed outcomes
No honest service can guarantee success. Whether recovery is possible depends on what you still have, and the assessment tells you before you commit.
We tell you honestly what is realistic before you commit — including when the answer is no.
How it works
A clear process from first contact to handover.
Tell us what happened
Share the wallet or software name, approximate year, device, problem and what material still exists. Do not send a seed phrase, private key, password, wallet file or ID document.
Initial feasibility view
Once we have enough information, we usually explain the likely recovery route, the main uncertainties and an initial indication of duration.
Verify and agree
We verify identity and ownership or legal authority. Scope, working method, fee and sensitive-material handling are agreed in writing before sensitive work begins.
Transfer or hand over material
PGP, our secure encrypted upload environment, in-person handover or agreed shipment may be used. We request only what is needed and work with copies where possible.
Technical recovery
We test the agreed recovery route in a controlled environment. You receive meaningful updates when findings affect the outlook, scope or next decision.
Client-controlled handover
Access is handed back through the agreed route. You open the wallet and move the assets to a wallet you control; case material is then handled according to the agreement and privacy policy.
Trust
A real company with a verifiable process.
Registered & named
Registered in the Netherlands (KvK 75927276) with a named team and a physical office in Amsterdam.
A written agreement first
Scope, fee and security measures are agreed in writing before any work. If you prefer, we can sign an NDA before you share substantive case details.
Always non-custodial
We restore access; you move the coins yourself. We never hold, manage or transfer your assets.
Ownership is verified
Identity, ownership and legal authority are verified with risk-based KYC/AML checks.
Good to know about Monero recovery
- Not a BIP-39 phrase. The 25-word seed uses Monero's own word lists of 1,626 words, not BIP-39's 2,048. Its 25th word is a checksum, picked by a CRC32 over the first three letters (in English) of each of the first 24 words. It is not interchangeable with a BIP-39 phrase.
- Seed formats by wallet. The official GUI and CLI write 25 words; several widely used third-party wallets write shorter schemes of their own. Feather and Cake Wallet create 16-word Polyseeds for new wallets; Cake Wallet can also create a 25-word legacy seed or a 12-word BIP-39 Monero seed. Feather also restores older 14-word seeds. Count the words before assuming which format you have.
- Feather's seed recovery tool. For a 16-word Polyseed with one or two missing words at known positions, Feather's built-in Seed Recovery tool can test the gaps. It cannot help when the word order is unknown.
- Restore height. It tells the wallet from which block to start scanning, entered as a block height or a date. Without it, a restore still works but rescans from the start of the chain: slow, not impossible. Too early only slows the first sync; too late hides earlier transactions. Store it, or the date of your first incoming transaction, with the seed.
- View-only keys. The seed encodes the private spend key, so with the seed the wallet restores in full. A view-only wallet only sees incoming transactions, cannot sign and misses outgoing ones, so its balance can be wrong.
Monero wallet recovery FAQ
Can you recover XMR with only a public address or a view key?
No. Spending needs the private spend key, which only the seed, a spend-key export or a spend-capable wallet file holds. A public address or a view-only wallet cannot replace that missing key material.
How do I restore a 16-word Polyseed?
In a wallet that supports Polyseed, such as Feather or Cake Wallet; the creation date inside the seed tells the wallet where to start scanning. For software that only accepts 25 words, Feather can show the same wallet as a 25-word seed; note the restore height when you do. If a seed passphrase was set, you need it as well.
How much does crypto wallet recovery cost?
It depends on the wallet's value and how complex the case is: our success fee runs from 20% of the recovered amount down to 2%. The exact rate is agreed in writing before any work starts — no hidden costs and no hourly rates.
Do you take custody of the assets at any point?
No. We restore access; you open the wallet and move the funds yourself. We cannot initiate a transaction on your behalf.
Do I need to send my seed phrase or password?
No — first contact needs no sensitive material, and we never ask for it through forms or chat. Under a written agreement we can work with copies of wallet files in a controlled environment, so your keys stay under your control.
What if my wallet was stolen or I was scammed?
We do not take stolen-crypto or scam cases, and blockchain transactions cannot be reversed. That is a police and legal matter.
