Quick answers

What is the Yoroi phrase format?

Wallets created in Yoroi use a 15-word BIP-39 recovery phrase; Yoroi can also restore compatible 24-word Cardano phrases. The phrase encoding and word list follow BIP-39, while Cardano uses its own key-derivation and account scheme. The wallet type and derivation must therefore match.

Can a Byron 12-word phrase be restored in Yoroi?

No. Byron-era phrases need a different route; that is a separate recovery path, not a dead end.

Why does my restored wallet show no rewards?

Rewards accrue in the wallet’s separate reward account, not at its receiving addresses. Check the rewards section and confirm that the same staking account was restored.

Yoroi wallet after the SecondFi shutdown

EMURGO renamed Yoroi to SecondFi in April 2026, and SecondFi is ceasing operations after a June 2026 security incident. For a wallet that was not affected, the way out is a Cardano wallet you create yourself with a new recovery phrase; the old words do not belong in the destination. If the app no longer opens, we help when the phrase is rejected, incomplete or opens an empty wallet. An affected address is different: restoring its phrase elsewhere does not remove the exposure, so it stays with SecondFi's official process. Yoroi recovery after SecondFi

Invalid or incomplete recovery phrase

A misspelled, missing or misplaced word ends in "Incorrect recovery phrase. Try again", or opens a different wallet. When the remaining words are known, we reconstruct phrases with up to four missing words. Feasibility and search time depend on the phrase length, which positions are open and whether a known address can confirm the result. Incomplete recovery phrase

Forgotten Yoroi spending password

The spending password encrypts the private key on your device. Yoroi cannot recover it, but it is not the backup either: restoring the 15- or 24-word phrase in a maintained Cardano wallet sets a fresh password, so losing the password does not lose the wallet. Losing the phrase as well is the hard case. Then keep the app and the wallet in place, because the encrypted key data on the device is the only copy left, and the assessment checks whether a password search is feasible. Forgot wallet password

Zero balance after restoring a Yoroi wallet

Yoroi is a light wallet, so a zero balance after a restore is usually a phrase-type or era issue, not a sync delay. A 15-word and a 24-word phrase are different backup formats: use the words exactly as recorded and identify the original wallet and era before choosing a restoration method. We check a known address on the blockchain before anyone concludes the ADA is gone. Zero balance after a restore

Old 12-word Byron phrase

A 12-word phrase is Byron-era and does not import into Yoroi at all, so a rejection there does not mean the phrase is wrong. It belongs in Daedalus, which still restores Byron legacy wallets, or in another wallet that reads the legacy Byron format. We identify which wallet and era created the phrase before anything else is tried. Daedalus wallet recovery

Mistakes to avoid

  • Don't remove an affected wallet, import its phrase into another wallet or act on it to capture rewards. SecondFi's own app and process are the route for it.
  • Don't delete the SecondFi app or the old wallet. SecondFi says the app or the recovery phrase, at least one of the two, is needed for a claim.
  • Don't reuse the old recovery phrase for the wallet you move to. Create a new wallet with a new phrase.
  • Don't add, remove or substitute words just to make a phrase fit another length.
  • Check a wallet's status only on checker.secondfi.io, which SecondFi names as its only official checker, and never type your recovery phrase into a website.
  • Never share your recovery phrase or spending password with anyone, including us, to get an assessment.

Information that helps the assessment

  • How many words your phrase has (12, 15 or 24) and roughly when the wallet was created. Describe it; don't send the words.
  • Whether you used Yoroi or SecondFi, as a browser extension or a mobile app, and whether it still opens.
  • What SecondFi's official checker says about the wallet, if you have checked it.
  • Whether a hardware wallet was connected.
  • A receiving address or an exchange withdrawal record that shows where the ADA was sent.
  • What happened, and what you have already tried.

Boundaries

What we do not do

  • Theft, scams or a wrong address

A confirmed blockchain transaction cannot be reversed, cancelled or redirected, by us or by anyone.

  • A completely lost recovery phrase

With no phrase, wallet file, device, backup or partial information left, there is nothing to reconstruct from.

  • Guaranteed outcomes

No honest service can guarantee success. Whether recovery is possible depends on what you still have, and the assessment tells you before you commit.

We tell you honestly what is realistic before you commit — including when the answer is no.

How it works

A clear process from first contact to handover.

  1. Tell us what happened

Share the wallet or software name, approximate year, device, problem and what material still exists. Do not send a seed phrase, private key, password, wallet file or ID document.

  2. Initial feasibility view

Once we have enough information, we usually explain the likely recovery route, the main uncertainties and an initial indication of duration.

  3. Verify and agree

We verify identity and ownership or legal authority. Scope, working method, fee and sensitive-material handling are agreed in writing before sensitive work begins.

  4. Transfer or hand over material

PGP, our secure encrypted upload environment, in-person handover or agreed shipment may be used. We request only what is needed and work with copies where possible.

  5. Technical recovery

We test the agreed recovery route in a controlled environment. You receive meaningful updates when findings affect the outlook, scope or next decision.

  6. Client-controlled handover

Access is handed back through the agreed route. You open the wallet and move the assets to a wallet you control; case material is then handled according to the agreement and privacy policy.

Good to know about Yoroi recovery

  • The June 2026 incident. Between June 21 and 23, 2026, about 16.1 million ADA was taken from 374 wallets. SecondFi traced it to a flaw in how the wallet software generated transaction signatures, which could expose the private key of an affected address. It affects a specific set of addresses, not all Yoroi wallets.
  • Hardware wallets. SecondFi states that hardware-wallet users were not compromised, whether they used SecondFi or Yoroi: their keys never left the device. Connect the device to another Cardano wallet instead of typing its phrase into software.
  • The migration tool. If SecondFi still opens, its migration tool moves available ADA and Cardano native assets to a new wallet you control with another provider, unstaking first. If you never used SecondFi, the tool does not apply, and SecondFi advises against installing it to reach your assets.
  • Phrase lengths. Yoroi creates 15-word phrases, Daedalus and Lace create 24, and Daedalus's older Byron wallets used 12. Only the matching format opens your funds. Yoroi ended support for Byron-era wallets in 2023; a 15-word Byron-era Yoroi wallet restores in Daedalus under its Yoroi option.
  • No lockout on passwords. Yoroi allows unlimited tries at the spending password, so testing the passwords you remember does no harm.

Yoroi wallet recovery FAQ

Can you recover a Yoroi wallet without the recovery phrase?

Only when local wallet data survives: the app or extension still installed with its encrypted key data, which the spending password unlocks. Yoroi does not store your phrase anywhere and has no reset. With no phrase and no local wallet data, there is nothing to recover from.

Can you recover ADA taken in the June 2026 SecondFi incident?

No. A confirmed transaction cannot be reversed, and we do not take theft cases. For affected addresses, SecondFi runs its own official process; follow it rather than restoring the phrase anywhere.

Is my ADA safe while I am locked out of Yoroi?

Losing access to the app does not move ADA; it stays on the Cardano blockchain. The exception is an affected address, whose key others may be able to rebuild, so check the official checker and follow SecondFi's process instead of waiting.

How much does crypto wallet recovery cost?

It depends on the wallet's value and how complex the case is: our success fee runs from 20% of the recovered amount down to 2%. The exact rate is agreed in writing before any work starts — no hidden costs and no hourly rates.

Do you take custody of the assets at any point?

No. We restore access; you open the wallet and move the funds yourself. We cannot initiate a transaction on your behalf.

Do I need to send my seed phrase or password?

No — first contact needs no sensitive material, and we never ask for it through forms or chat. Under a written agreement we can work with copies of wallet files in a controlled environment, so your keys stay under your control.

What if my wallet was stolen or I was scammed?

We do not take stolen-crypto or scam cases, and blockchain transactions cannot be reversed. That is a police and legal matter.
