What is Proof of Stake (PoS)?

Proof of Stake (PoS) is a way for cryptocurrencies to confirm transactions and add new blocks to the blockchain. Unlike the traditional Proof of Work (PoW), where miners solve puzzles, PoS chooses validators based on how many coins they have staked. This system is not only more energy-efficient but also improves security because validators have a financial interest in keeping the network safe.

The main benefits of PoS include lower energy use, better scalability, and more people being able to participate. It also strengthens security, as bad actors would lose their staked coins if they tried to attack the system. Cryptos like Peercoin, Nxt, and Ethereum (which is shifting from PoW to PoS) are moving toward PoS, recognizing its potential for a greener and more efficient blockchain future.
